Background of the study
This study appraises the influence of technology on Igbo simultaneous interpretation in conferences, where advanced digital tools are increasingly integrated to support real-time language conversion. In contemporary conferences, especially in multilingual settings, technological aids such as digital headsets, real-time transcription software, and interpreter consoles have transformed how interpreters work, improving speed and accuracy (Okafor, 2023). In Igbo contexts, the integration of these technologies has the potential to mitigate traditional challenges such as time lag and interpreter fatigue. However, while these tools enhance the efficiency of interpretation, they may also introduce challenges such as dependency on technical infrastructure and possible loss of cultural nuance. The study investigates how interpreters in Igbo conferences adapt to technology-enhanced environments and the impact these innovations have on the quality of interpretation. Through qualitative methods including interviews with professional interpreters, observation of live conference settings, and analysis of recorded sessions, the research evaluates both the benefits and drawbacks of technological integration. It also explores the training required to effectively utilize these tools and the extent to which technology bridges communication gaps in high-stakes political, academic, and business conferences. Ultimately, the study aims to provide recommendations for improving the interface between technology and interpreter performance, ensuring that digital advancements support rather than compromise the rich linguistic and cultural fabric of Igbo simultaneous interpretation (Okafor, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Despite the integration of advanced technology in conference interpretation, significant challenges persist in ensuring that Igbo simultaneous interpretation remains accurate and culturally nuanced. Technical glitches, insufficient training in digital tools, and over-reliance on automated features sometimes result in misinterpretations or omissions of critical cultural references (Okafor, 2023). These issues are exacerbated by inconsistent technological infrastructure and limited support during live events, ultimately affecting the clarity and reliability of the interpreted message. The study seeks to identify specific technological shortcomings, assess their impact on interpreter performance, and propose viable solutions to enhance both the technological support systems and interpreter training programs.

Objectives of the study:

To evaluate the impact of technological tools on Igbo simultaneous interpretation quality.

To identify challenges associated with technology integration in live conferences.

To recommend strategies for enhancing technology-assisted interpretation.

Research questions:

How does technology influence the accuracy of Igbo simultaneous interpretation?

What challenges do interpreters face when using digital tools in conferences?

How can interpreter training and technological support be improved?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the role of technology in shaping Igbo simultaneous interpretation in conference settings. The insights derived will inform interpreter training, technological enhancements, and policy guidelines to ensure accurate, culturally rich communication. Enhanced technology integration can improve the efficiency of interpretation services and support multilingual communication in diverse conference environments (Okafor, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to the influence of technology on Igbo simultaneous interpretation in conference settings, focusing on live event analysis and interpreter feedback.

Definitions of terms:

Simultaneous interpretation: Real-time translation of spoken language during live events.

Digital tools: Technologies such as headsets, consoles, and software used to aid interpretation.

Cultural nuance: Subtle elements of cultural meaning inherent in language.
